Reverberation chamber is included in CTIA’s test plan for wireless large form factor devices
We are very happy to announce that the reverberation chamber is included as the only measurement methodology for wireless large form factor devices in CTIA’s test plan for over-the-air (OTA) performance. All devices larger than notebook-size (one dimension larger than 42 cm) are defined as a large form factor device. The test plan covers the following cellular protocols: CDMA, CDMA 1xRTT DATA, CDMA 1xEV-DO, GSM, GPRS, EGPRS, UMTS and LTE.
As known since before, the exact positioning of the DUT in the reverberation chamber is not critical. This means that large, heavy, and bulky devices are advantageous to measure in the reverberation chamber since they are hard, or even impossible, to position in an anechoic chamber based test setup.
Bluetest has been a member of the working group for OTA testing of large form factor devices together with other members of CTIA to finalize this test plan. We are really happy that it is now ready and that we can support our customers within the IoT/M2M market with efficient CTIA approved test equipment. The RTS95 is the applicable reverberation chamber for the large form factor OTA measurements and would be either a great tool to do your own pre-compliance tests, or if you are a CTIA Authorized Test Lab you can use the RTS95 to run all measurements specified in the test plan. Its spacious test volume of 2 m x 2 m x 2 m allows for large DUTs. In combination with the heavy duty turntable the whole system allows also for heavy DUTs, up to 150 kg.
